Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated candidate for the position of Senior Coordinator Mechanization to be based in our Southern Africa Regional Office in Harare, Zimbabwe. This is a nationally recruited position and is open to all Zimbabweans with excellent academic records. This position will support managing mechanization projects, develop workplan and guide project staff in implementation and achieving goals. The incumbent will be required to communicate and liaise with partners, collect, and analyze monitoring and scientific data, and prepare reports, publications, and presentations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate mechanization projects being implemented in Zimbabwe.
  • Ensure all components of the activity are implemented as per schedule and within the approved budget.
  • Translate project goals and objectives into implementable strategies and work plans with staff and partners.
  • Develop, track, and adapt project workplans, and oversee financial management as per the donor and CIMMYT policies.
  • Lead development of research and data collection plan and ensure all data is collected and synthesized including effective knowledge management and dissemination of results.
  • Assess new and existing farm machinery and other technologies, collect user feedback, prepare reports; and improve machinery in partnership with local manufacturers.
  • Identify problems and risks associated with the timely implementation of activities and suggest appropriate adjustments to activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of all project reports and deliverables.
  • Foster active collaboration with partners and sister projects and follow up with key stakeholders.
  • Regularly participate in donor meetings and represent the activity at high-level meetings, conferences, and other fora.
  • Supervision and guidance of the field implementation team.
  • Organize workshops, trainings, round table meetings, field meetings, field days and other promotional activities.
  • Assist project and CIMMYT management in any other matters as and when required.

Requirements

  • BSc Agricultural Engineering and MS in Farm Machinery/Mechanization/relevant field from a well-recognized university.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing and implementing mechanization projects in Zimbabwe involving two-wheel tractors, seeders and other smallholder machinery and establishment and monitoring of research experiments.
  • Have practical experience in designing and conducting hands-on training program for mechanization service providers, manufacturers, mechanics, and agricultural engineers.
  • Experience with public-private partnerships in mechanization value chain would be an added advantage.
  • The candidate should demonstrate evidence that they have published peer-reviewed research articles on smallholder mechanization in scientific journals.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the agricultural mechanization technology and delivery issues in Zimbabwe.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English is essential.
  • The selected candidate must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Interpersonal skills, teamwork, communication, client orientation, and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • This position requires extensive field travel. The candidate must have a valid Class 4 driving license.
